John Elway for Your Event
John Elway had a tremendous college
career at Stanford, finishing second
in the Heisman Trophy balloting in
his senior year. After breaking
virtually every Pac-10 and Stanford
passing record, John was selected by
the Colts with the first overall
pick in the 1983 Draft. Threatening
to quit football and play baseball
for the Yankees if not traded from
the Colts, Elway got his wish and
was shipped to the Denver Broncos
before the 1983 season. John Elway
enjoyed success immediately with
Denver and by 1984 he was one of the
best in the league.
Elway’s many records include first
in all-time NFL victories, second
all-time in passing yards, and an
NFL record 41 4th quarter game
winning drives. John Elway holds
nearly all of Denver’s team records
for passing (51,475 yards), and most
touchdowns (300). John capped his
career by leading the Broncos to an
upset victory over the Green Bay
Packers in 1998, and then by
repeating as Super Bowl Champion in
1999. The NFL lost a great one when
John retired, gone but not
forgotten.
